One of the most well known taxidermists of all time, Rowland Ward was a gifted artist, sculptor, naturalist, and sportsman. Traveling the world and doing what he loved while enjoying the good things in life, he was a traditional boy viveur of his day.
Rowland Ward 1848 – 1912. It would appear Rowland Ward started as a taxidermist from around 1862 under his father Henry Ward. He branched out on his own circa 1872 and developed the art to its best level continuing for nearly 40 years before his death.
Original working in Harley Street he moved to 158 Piccadilly then to 166 then 167 Piccadilly, throughout his career always striving to improve his quality and realism of his work bringing life back into the subject.
Collectors of taxidermy from around the world have long coveted Rowland Ward’s many pieces. After branching out to form his own taxidermy business in 1872, known as Rowland Ward Ltd. of Piccadilly, his fame and popularity exploded. He continued producing, developing, and improving his art to his best level for nearly 40 more years before his death.
