Antique Apothecary Set of Weights and Measures Circa 19th Century European
This is a most interesting find! A fabulous set of apothecary weights and measures. The cup weights are housed in a magnificent detailed brass handled container and there are seven cups in various sizes and weights that nest inside one another.
The top of the housing measures 3 3/16 in diameter. It has a series of concentric circles some of which have numbers and/or letters. The outer most circle has the numbers 18-9 and 56; the number 18-9 also appears on the center circle along with the letter number U3. Two other inner circles are numbered 23 and 56.
The weights of the standard measures from large to small are respectively in ounces: 6.735; 4.885; 3.275; 3.130; 2.260; 1.465; 0.815; 0.925.
An interesting very old set of antique weights and measures and a great find for collectors.

Weight: The nesting cups together weigh 23.49 ounces.
The outer case or house weighs 21.3 ounces.
The combined total of all is 44.60 ounces.
