This is a beautiful heavy handmade wool needlepoint pillow with roughly 100 stitches per square inch. The image is one of a woolly English young baby lamb. Needlepoint is a fine expression of hand artistry that has a timeless beauty. The pillow has a light beige cotton velvet zippered back and a sewn down filled insert for incredible luxury.
Needlepoint as it is known today originated in the 17th century, when the fashion for furniture upholstered with embroidered fabrics prompted the development of a more durable material to serve as the embroidery's foundation. Western culture tends to link needlework to women, but it was originally performed by men who spent years mastering their craft.
