Antique Cherry Toothpaste Ceramic Jar and Lid from the late 19'th Century England
An original rare antique Porcelain Cherry Toothpaste Jar & lid.
Made in England by John Gosnell & Co. in the Late 19th century. The Advertisement on the lid states: "Cherry Tooth Paste Patronized By The Queen".
The "Extra Moist" on the jar lid would date the jar post 1884 and the absence of Ltd. dates it to pre 1898.
This Jar is in very good condition for it's age and is highly collectible. This is one of my favorite antique toothpaste brands and this was a thrilling find for me!
Another fascinating bit of history for the collector. Every 1st class passenger on the famed R.M.S. Titanic was given one of these toothpaste jars as a luxury toiletry item. The salvage company who owns the rights to the salvage from the actual Titanic found several of these jars and recovered them from the ocean floor.
The John Gosnell Company traces its roots back to 1677. Over the first one hundred and fifty years the company changed its name a number of times from John Price through to Price & Gosnell to John Gosnell. In 1760 the company decided to fully devote itself to cosmetics, soap and perfume manufacture.
