A beautifully intriguing slice of petrified wood collected from a geologist professor in Mt. Hood, Oregon.
This professor had a private collection that this slice was a part of. We were fortunate enough to have obtained a large part
of this collection and his legacy when the professor passed away.
This slice is a beautiful representation of a slice of an Oak Tree turned to stone with age.
Petrified wood is a fossil. It forms when plant material is buried by sediment and protected from decay due to oxygen and organisms. Then, groundwater rich in dissolved solids flows through the sediment, replacing the original plant material with silica, calcite, pyrite, or another inorganic material such as opal.
This wood slice is presented on a 24K gold plated display stand. Great for a collector and perfect to display on a bookshelf or mantle.

Very cool piece. I got to enjoy it for about three days before the cat knocked it off my bookshelf and it broke.
